Get a Comprehensive Maine Homeowners Insurance Policy

Category: Blog

Homeowners insurance provides financial protection in case something unexpected happens to your home or in your home, and while most homeowners have insurance, it doesn’t mean they necessarily have the right insurance. There a several things to think about if you want a Maine homeowners insurance policy that will provide sufficient financial coverage, so you’re not left having to dig deep into your own pockets.

Paying to repair major damage to your home is obviously a major expense, and you need to make sure you know exactly what you will be covered for if your home is damaged. In many cases, the extent to which you will be reimbursed for damages will depend on how your home was damaged. Insurance policies may protect homeowners against “perils”, such as fire, lightning and windstorms, but it pays to check which perils are included in a basic policy, and determine whether you should get additional coverage. You will need replacement cost coverage if you would want your house to be re-built or repaired after a disaster.

You may also need to get coverage for your personal possessions. Again, replacement cost insurance might cover the cost of replacing your lost possessions, without taking depreciation into account. Actual cash value insurance will factor in depreciation.  You should also have a list of your possessions and receipts so you can work out what sort of compensation you are entitled to if you need to make a Maine home insurance claim.
