The Benefits of Trees for Maine Homeowners

Category: Blog

According to the Texas A&M University, studies show that being in the presence of trees and plants can provide positive benefits for our health and well being by improving mood, energy and vitality, and reducing stress and depression. In addition, plants in the workplace have even been shown to improve concentration and enhance performance.

A garden full of trees and beautiful plants can provide a place to retreat to – a haven at the end of a hectic week. Strategically planted trees can also provide shade, reduce energy use, and help improve the environment. According to the Arbor Day Foundation, planting on the west side of a home can help reduce energy costs in both summer and winter. In addition, trees in the garden may even increase the value of a property.

This could be very good news to those who love natural environments, and who also wish to reduce energy costs and improve the re-sale value of their properties. However, the downside is the potential for trees to cause property damage. This may be alleviated by ensuring that trees are regularly pruned and well-maintained, to help prevent tree-collapse or weakened branches from tearing off and becoming wind-borne in a storm. It’s also important that property owners have adequate homeowners insurance in place for financial protection in case of local disasters.
